Course Description
This three-day Intermediate First Aid course builds upon the foundational knowledge from Basic First Aid and introduces learners to a wider range of medical emergencies and trauma care scenarios. Participants will learn to assess complex injuries, apply advanced bandaging and splinting techniques, and manage multiple casualties. The course is designed for individuals who may be responsible for the health and safety of others in environments where professional medical assistance may be delayed, such as camps, lodges, field stations, and construction sites.
Course Outcome
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Conduct detailed casualty assessments, including checking for vital signs, neurological state, and hidden injuries.
- Respond effectively to a broader range of medical emergencies, including diabetic emergencies, strokes, and environmental injuries (e.g., heatstroke, hypothermia).
- Handle trauma situations, such as head, neck, spinal, and chest injuries with appropriate immobilisation techniques.
- Demonstrate secondary survey techniques and prioritise multiple casualties using the triage system.
- Administer CPR with the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
- Recognise and assist with poisoning, overdoses, and substance-related emergencies.
- Safely move and transport casualties without causing further injury.
- Manage emergency communication, including accurate reporting and coordination with medical teams.
