Course Description

This two-day short learning course focuses on raising awareness about HIV/AIDS and substance abuse, highlighting their impact on personal well-being, workplace performance, and community health. Participants will explore how lifestyle choices, stigma, and misinformation affect both conditions — and how responsible decision-making, compassion, and accurate knowledge can prevent transmission and abuse. Through group discussions, videos, case studies, and reflection exercises, participants will gain practical tools to protect themselves, support others, and promote a healthy, informed workplace culture.

Course Outcome

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the risks associated with chainsaw operation and how to apply essential safety principles.
  • Identify the main components and safety features of a chainsaw, including chain brake, throttle lock, and hand guards.
  • Use personal protective equipment (PPE) correctly and explain its importance in chainsaw operation.
  • Recognise and comply with relevant safety rules, site protocols, and environmental responsibilities.
  • Conduct a basic risk assessment before starting any cutting activity.
  • Safely refuel, tension, and start a chainsaw, using correct procedures to avoid injury.
  • Prevent and manage chainsaw kickback, understanding causes and safe-handling techniques.
  • Operate the chainsaw confidently under supervision, demonstrating controlled and safe cutting techniques.
  • Perform routine chainsaw maintenance, including daily checks and 80-hour service inspections.
  • Handle hazardous liquids, such as fuel and bar oil, using proper containment and disposal procedures.
