Course Description
This module delves into the diverse world of mammals, with a focus on those found in Botswana’s ecosystems. Trainees will explore mammal evolution, identification, biology, and their ecological roles, as well as interactions with habitats and other species. Practical sessions will include field tracking, observation techniques, and habitat interpretation, preparing guides to confidently interpret and share engaging insights about mammalian life with guests.
Course Outcome
By the end of this module, the trainee will be able to:
- Describe the major mammal habitats in Botswana and their seasonal variations.
- Identify common mammal species across orders and explain their key adaptations and behaviors.
- Explain the ecological roles of mammals in food webs, ecosystems, and biodiversity maintenance.
- Assess signs of mammal presence, such as tracks, scat, and burrows, for conservation monitoring.
- Discuss human impacts on mammal populations and propose conservation strategies.
- Confidently guide guests through mammal-rich areas, providing accurate and captivating information about species and behaviors.
